Annabelle was 8 years old she walked past a pet shop and felt sorry for the chicks in the
window, so she took them home. That was her first experience of animal rescue. Today, her acts of kindness continue…
In 1983, she established Happy Landings Animal Rescue, and in 40 years the sanctuary has rescued more than 10,000 animals. It hasn’t always been easy, but Annabelle found that when pushed to the ultimate limit, she could find the might to go even further.
For Annabelle, love is the most important thing; being as unselfish as you can. They are principles she has honoured throughout her life. Always striving to help things who are worse off.

Her first ever Happy Landings rescue was a goose called Pimple. She had only been living at the sanctuary for two days when an RSPCA van came up the drive with an injured goose that had flown into overhead wires. Annabelle care for it until it was well enough to fly away.
Annabelle believes the biggest obstacle Happy Landings has faced, is never having the financial security or luck that a small, struggling charity needs to feel safe. And, for as long as she has been rescuing animals, the number of creatures surrendered into animal shelters has been rising. She feels incredibly grateful to the people who have supported Happy Landings – without them, it wouldn’t be able to continue to do the work it does.
Annabelle continues to dedicate herself towards bettering the life of animals; and whatever the future holds, Happy Landings will continue to help as many furry (and non-furry) friends as possible.
